Scientists say that the newly discovered object is spinning faster over time, which makes it really strange.
Astronomers have found a star in space, for which in Bengali the appropriate adjectives are probably ‘snappy’ and ‘weird’.
This object, named ‘Chime J1634+44’, is emitting a powerful radio signal or signal in a way that scientists claim has never been seen before.
The object is part of a group called ‘Long Period Radio Transients’ or LPTS, which scientists have recently discovered. These cosmic objects send out radio signals, rotate much more slowly than other stars, and even take minutes or hours to complete one rotation, the science-based site Norridge wrote in the report.
Tha Scientists say that the newly discovered object is spinning faster over time, which makes it really strange.
Tha matter is very surprising. Because, in general, rotating objects in space, such as various neutron stars or white dwarfs, gradually lose their speed over time. But 'Chime J1634+44' is acting the other way. This star is changing from rotating slowly to rotating faster, which does not match the laws of physics.
Scientists say that such an event has never been seen before in the case of 'Long Period Radio Transients' or LPTS-A objects. Therefore, this is a completely new and mysterious phenomenon for them.
This research was led by Fengqiu Adam Dong, a Jansky Fellow at the 'Green Bank Observatory' of the US 'National Science Foundation'.
Dong and his research team looked at this strange object with some of the most powerful radio telescopes in the world, like the "Green Bank Telescope," the "Very Large Array," and the "Chime Radio Telescope" in Canada. Discovery of this X-ray signal from the object was made possible by NASA's "Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory."
Radio signals are repeatedly sent by "Chime J1634+44," but not consistently or at the same times. Sometimes the radio signal from the object comes every 14 minutes and then it goes away in a different cycle of 70 minutes, that is, this object sends signals in two different time cycles.
Scientists believe that the different types of this strange signal indicate that something is rotating around the main object, possibly another star. This indicates that the ‘Chime J1634+44’ object is a ‘close binary system’ or a close pair of two cosmic objects that are orbiting each other.
The strange object emits radio waves that are 100 percent ‘circularly polarized’, or they rotate in a perfect spiral shape to spread these radio waves into space. This is a rare phenomenon. Because, tha radio waves are rotating or random, 100 percent rotating radio waves have not been seen in any known neutron star or white dwarf so far.
Tha strange radio signal suggests that the way Chime J1634+44 is generating radio waves may be a completely different process that scientists have never seen before.
The research team believes that the two stars are orbiting so close to each other that they are slowly losing energy. This could happen by emitting ‘gravitational waves’. As a result, their orbits are gradually getting smaller and the main object is starting to spin faster and faster.
This object is behaving so differently from other ‘long period radio transients’ or LPTS, so researcher Dong has described it as a ‘unicorn’.
Scientists believe that there may be many more mysterious objects hidden in space that are still waiting to be discovered.
Researchers say that this discovery has pushed the boundaries of knowledge about stars further, which could help uncover many more unknown secrets of the universe in the future.
