UK signs deal with AI, OpenAI for government work

Earlier this year, the UK signed such agreements with OpenAI's rival US search giant Google and AI startup Anthropic.

Tha UK has signed an agreement with ChatGPT maker OpenAI to increase the efficiency of work by using artificial intelligence or AI in various government services.

The agreement is between OpenAI and the UK Department for Science. The agreement may allow the AI company to use some government information or data. Addition, Tha BBC reports that the AI software developed by OpenAI will also be used in important government sectors such as education, defense, security and the courts in the UK.

According to UK Technology Minister Peter Kyle, artificial intelligence (AI) "will also speed up the country's economic growth" and "play a fundamental role in bringing about change in the UK."

Accordeing to the BBC, there has previously been criticism of the Labour government's use of AI. Some campaigners and musicians have complained that AI is using their music without permission, which they cannot accept.

Tha UK and OpenAI will "cooperate to better understand the capabilities and security risks of artificial intelligence and to mitigate those risks," according to the memorandum of understanding.

Additionally, the memorandum states that OpenAI and the UK can establish a "program for information sharing" in which they "develop security systems that protect ordinary people while upholding democratic values."

OpenAAI’s chief executive Sam Altman said the plan would “ensure prosperity for all.”

He added that “AI is a technology for nation-building that will develop the country, transform the economy and ensure growth.”

The BBC wrote that the agreement comes at a time when the UK government is looking for ways to boost the country’s stagnant economy. The country has forecast economic growth of 0.1 percent to 0.2 percent from April to June.

Tha UK government has stated unequivocally that it is willing to invest in the field of artificial intelligence. Similar agreements were inked earlier this year by the nation with AI startup Anthropic and OpenAI's rival US search giant Google.

The agreement with OpenAI "could mean that world-changing AI technology will be developed in the UK, which will drive economic growth through new discoveries," according to the government.

Generative AI software such as OpenAI's ChatGPT can generate text, images, videos and music from user commands or prompts.

AI creates this content based on a variety of information, including books, images, film videos and songs. The BBC wrote in the report that this raises questions about the possibility of copyright infringement or whether this information has been used with permission.

AI has also faced criticism for giving false information or bad advice based on prompts.
