YouTube is actively removing these accounts as part of Google's 'Threat Analysis Group' to prevent the spread of disinformation and 'coordinated influence' around the world.

Online video sharing platform YouTube has removed thousands of propaganda channels linked to China, Russia and other countries.

In an announcement on Monday, YouTube's parent company Google said that in the second quarter of 2025, it had removed nearly 11,000 YouTube channels and other accounts associated with state-sponsored propaganda efforts from Russia, China, and other nations.

The incident included more than 7,700 YouTube channels linked to China, according to the American media outlet CNBC.

The YouTube channels that were removed mainly shared videos or content in Chinese and English, which spoke in favor of China, supported the country's President Xi Jinping and commented on USA foreign policy, according to the report by CNBC.

ThIs is channels that were removed, over 2,000 were pro-Russian. These channels published content in various languages, including those that took sides with Russia and criticized Ukraine, NATO, and Western countries.

On This May, USA search giant Google removed 20 YouTube channels, four advertising accounts, and a blogger blog associated with the Russian state-controlled media outlet RT. RT is accused of paying conservative influencers to create content on social media ahead of the 2024 US election.

YouTube influencers such as Tim Poole, Dave Rubin, and Benny Johnson, who are staunch supporters of US President Donald Trump, created content for Tencent Media, a company based in Tennessee, US.

YouTube began blocking RT’s channels in March 2022, shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine.

YouTube is actively removing these accounts as part of Google’s Threat Analysis Group’s work to prevent the spread of misinformation and “coordinated influence” around the world.

Google’s second-quarter report said it identified campaigns from Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Israel, Romania and Ghana that targeted political rivals. The search giant has also removed several YouTube accounts associated with those campaigns.

Some of these campaigns focused on ongoing global political conflicts, including speeches or perspectives from both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian war, which featured both sides.

On This statement, a YouTube spokesperson said, “The results of the latest update are nothing new for them. Such work is ongoing and these results are in line with their expectations, which is just part of their regular and ongoing work.”

The Google Company removed more than 23,000 accounts during this first quarter.
